"Maya"

Questo quadro ed il successivo formano un dittico i cui titoli sono un gioco di parole con Maya e Maya Desnuda di Goya, con la differenza che qui Maya non è una donna ma un concetto. Maya nella cultura induista è l’illusione, il potere ingannevole della vita sensoriale, che cela la realtà ultima delle cose. In questo quadro ciò che è chiaro e ben comprensibile sono le due bande verticali e le sue decorazioni, che sono in primo piano su uno sfondo non ben definito, apparentemente incoerente e separato da esse.

"Maya"

This painting and the next form a diptych, the titles of which play with the words Maya and Maya Desnuda, Goya’s painting. The difference is that here Maya is not a woman but an idea. In Hindu culture, Maya is illusion, the deceptive power of the senses, which conceal the essence of things. In this painting, the clear and understandable parts are the two vertical bands and decorations, which are in the foreground. The background is, on the other hand, not defined, and is apparently incoherent and separate from the rest.
